Sutta la “Ngurumo ya Hofu”.
1. Evaṃ me sutaṃ – ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā sāvatthiyaṃ viharati jetavane anāthapiṇḍikassa ārāme.
- Hivi ndivyo nilivyosikia—wakati mmoja Bhagavā alikuwa akiishi Sāvatthī, katika Msitu wa Jeta, bustani ya Anāthapiṇḍika.
2. Atha kho jāṇussoṇi brāhmaṇo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi.
- Ndipo brāhmaṇa Jāṇussoṇi akamwendea Bhagavā; alipomfikia, akamsalimia kwa heshima.
3. Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi.
- Baada ya kubadilishana mazungumzo ya kirafiki yanayokumbukwa, akaketi pembeni.
4. Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho jāṇussoṇi brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca
- Akiwa ameketi kando, brāhmaṇa Jāṇussoṇi akamwambia Bhagavā
5. ‘‘yeme, bho gotama, kulaputtā bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ uddissa saddhā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajitā, bhavaṃ tesaṃ gotamo pubbaṅgamo, bhavaṃ tesaṃ gotamo bahukāro, bhavaṃ tesaṃ gotamo samādapetā; bhoto ca pana gotamassa sā janatā diṭṭhānugatiṃ āpajjatī’’ti.
- “Ee Gotama, wale vijana wa ukoo ambao, kwa kukuamini, wameacha nyumba na kuingia utawa—wewe, Gotama, ndiye mtangulizi wao, wewe ni mwenye faida kuu kwao, wewe ndiye unayewapa msukumo; na watu hao wa Mheshimiwa Gotama wanakufuata kama mfano.”
6. ‘‘Evametaṃ, brāhmaṇa, evametaṃ, brāhmaṇa! Ye te, brāhmaṇa, kulaputtā mamaṃ uddissa saddhā agārasmā anagāriyaṃ pabbajitā, ahaṃ tesaṃ pubbaṅgamo, ahaṃ tesaṃ bahukāro, ahaṃ tesaṃ samādapetā; mama ca pana sā janatā diṭṭhānugatiṃ āpajjatī’’ti.
- “Ndivyo ilivyo, brāhmaṇa, ndivyo ilivyo! Wale vijana waliokuja utawani wakinifuata kwa imani—mimi ndiye mtangulizi wao, mimi ni mwenye faida kubwa kwao, mimi ndiye ninayewahimiza; na watu hao kwangu wanaufuata mfano wangu.”
7. ‘‘Durabhisambhavāni hi kho, bho gotama, araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni, dukkaraṃ pavivekaṃ, durabhiramaṃ ekatte, haranti maññe mano vanāni samādhiṃ alabhamānassa bhikkhuno’’ti .
- “Kweli, Ee Gotama, misitu na nyika na makazi ya faragha ni magumu kufikiwa; ni vigumu kupata utengano, si rahisi kupendeza ukiwa peke yako; misitu—labda—huiba mawazo ya mtawa asiyeweza kupata utulivu wa samādhi.”
8. ‘‘Evametaṃ, brāhmaṇa, evametaṃ, brāhmaṇa! Durabhisambhavāni hi kho, brāhmaṇa, araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni, dukkaraṃ pavivekaṃ, durabhiramaṃ ekatte, haranti maññe mano vanāni samādhiṃ alabhamānassa bhikkhuno’’ti.
- “Ndivyo ilivyo, brāhmaṇa, ndivyo ilivyo! Misitu, nyika na makazi ya upweke kweli ni vigumu kufikiwa; ni shida kupata utengano, si rahisi kupendeza ukiwa peke yako; misitu huonekana kana kwamba hute¬ka mawazo ya mtawa asiyeweza kupata utulivu wa samādhi.”
9. Mayhampi kho, brāhmaṇa, pubbeva sambodhā anabhisambuddhassa bodhisattasseva sato etadahosi
- Hata mimi, brāhmaṇa, kabla ya kuangazia Ufunguo Kamili, nilipokuwa bado Bodhisatta asiyeamshwa, nilifikiri hivi
10. ‘durabhisambhavāni hi kho araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni,
- “Kweli, vijisakani vya ndani kabisa vya misitu ni vigumu kuvumilia,
11. dukkaraṃ pavivekaṃ, durabhiramaṃ ekatte,
- utengano ni mgumu, na upweke si jambo la kufurahisha,
12. haranti maññe mano vanāni samādhiṃ alabhamānassa bhikkhuno’ti.
- misitu kana kwamba huiba fikira za mtawa asiyeweza kupata samādhi.”
13. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa —
14. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā aparisuddhakāyakammantā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Watwa au mabrahmana wowote wenye matendo machafu ya kimwili wanaoishi katika mahandaki hayo ya porini,
15. aparisuddhakāyakammantasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.
- kwa uchafu wa miili yao hujiletea hofu na vitisho vibaya.”
16. Na kho panāhaṃ aparisuddhakāyakammanto araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na matendo machafu ya mwili;
17. parisuddhakāyakammantohamasmi.
- matendo yangu ya mwili ni safi.
18. Ye hi vo ariyā parisuddhakāyakammantā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye matendo safi ya mwili wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
19. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, parisuddhakāyakammataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua usafi huu wa mwili ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliniongezea shauku na ari ya kuishi porini zaidi.
20. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa —
21. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā aparisuddhavacīkammantā…
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mwenye matendo machafu ya maneno…
22. …aparisuddhamanokammantā …
- …au matendo machafu ya akili…
23. …aparisuddhājīvā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- …au riziki chafu, wakaishi misituni katika makazi ya upweke,
24. aparisuddhājīvasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.
- basi kwa uchafu wa riziki yao hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
25. Na kho panāhaṃ aparisuddhājīvo araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na riziki chafu;
26. parisuddhājīvohamasmi.
- riziki yangu ni safi.
27. Ye hi vo ariyā parisuddhājīvā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye riziki safi waishio maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
28. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, parisuddhājīvataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua usafi huu wa riziki ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
29. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
30. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā abhijjhālū kāmesu tibbasārāgā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mwenye tamaa kali ya anasa za kimwili anayeishi katika misitu, nyika na makazi ya upweke,
31. abhijjhālukāmesutibbasārāgasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.
- kwa sababu ya pupa hiyo yenye nguvu hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
32. Na kho panāhaṃ abhijjhālu kāmesu tibbasārāgo araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na tamaa kali ya anasa;
33. anabhijjhālūhamasmi.
- mimi sina pupa.
34. Ye hi vo ariyā anabhijjhālū araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wasio na pupa wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
35. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, anabhijjhālutaṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua kutokuwa na pupa ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliniongezea ari na ujasiri wa kuishi porini.
36. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Halafu likanijia wazo tena, brāhmaṇa—
37. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā byāpannacittā paduṭṭhamanasaṅkappā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mwenye moyo uliojaa chuki na nia mbaya anayeishi katika misitu, nyika na makazi ya upweke,
38. byāpannacittapaduṭṭhamanasaṅkappasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya chuki na mawazo maovu hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
39. Na kho panāhaṃ byāpannacitto paduṭṭhamanasaṅkappo araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na moyo wa chuki au nia mbaya;
40. mettacittohamasmi.
- moyo wangu umejaa metta (upendo wenye wema).
41. Ye hi vo ariyā mettacittā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye mioyo ya metta wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
42. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, mettacittataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua moyo huu wa metta ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
43. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
44. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā thīnamiddhapariyuṭṭhitā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote aliyekithiriwa na usingizi na uvivu, akiishi misitu, nyika na makazi ya upweke,
45. thīnamiddhapariyuṭṭhānasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya uvivu huo na usingizi hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
46. Na kho panāhaṃ thīnamiddhapariyuṭṭhito araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa nimelemewa na uvivu na usingizi;
47. vigatathīnamiddhohamasmi.
- nimeondokana na usingizi na uvivu.
48. Ye hi vo ariyā vigatathīnamiddhā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya walioamka, wasiokithiriwa na uvivu, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
49. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, vigatathīnamiddhataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua kuondoka kwa uvivu na usingizi ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
50. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Halafu likanijia wazo tena, brāhmaṇa—
51. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā uddhatā avūpasantacittā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mwenye msisimko na akili isiyotulia, akiishi misitu, nyika na makazi ya upweke,
52. uddhataavūpasantacittasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya kuhamaki na ukosefu wa utulivu hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
53. Na kho panāhaṃ uddhato avūpasantacitto araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na akili inayorukaruka isiyotulia;
54. vūpasantacittohamasmi.
- akili yangu imetulia, imesitishwa.
55. Ye hi vo ariyā vūpasantacittā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye akili tulivu, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
56. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, vūpasantacittataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua utulivu huu wa akili ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
57. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Halafu likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
58. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā kaṅkhī vicikicchī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote aliyejaa shaka na mashaka, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya faragha,
59. kaṅkhivicikicchisandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya shaka zao hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
60. Na kho panāhaṃ kaṅkhī vicikicchī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa na shaka au wasiwasi;
61. tiṇṇavicikicchohamasmi.
- nimevuka mashaka.
62. Ye hi vo ariyā tiṇṇavicikicchā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya walio vuka shaka, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
63. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, tiṇṇavicikicchataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua kushinda shaka ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
64. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
65. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā attukkaṃsakā paravambhī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote anayejisifu na kuwadharau wengine, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya faragha,
66. attukkaṃsanaparavambhanasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya kujigamba na kudharau hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
67. Na kho panāhaṃ attukkaṃsako paravambhī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa mwenye majivuno au dharau;
68. anattukkaṃsako aparavambhīhamasmi.
- sijisifu wala kuwadharau wengine.
69. Ye hi vo ariyā anattukkaṃsakā aparavambhī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wasiojisifu wala kudharau, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
70. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, anattukkaṃsakataṃ aparavambhitaṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua hali hii ya kutokujigamba na kutokudharau ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
71. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Halafu likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
72. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā chambhī bhīrukajātikā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mwenye asili ya woga na kutetemeka, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya faragha,
73. chambhibhīrukajātikasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya woga huo hujiletea hofu mbaya na vitisho.”
74. Na kho panāhaṃ chambhī bhīrukajātiko araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa mwoga au mnyonge;
75. vigatalomahaṃsohamasmi.
- sina hata kusimama kwa vinyweleo—nimeondoa hofu.
76. Ye hi vo ariyā vigatalomahaṃsā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wasio na woga, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
77. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, vigatalomahaṃsataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua kutoweka kwa woga ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongezea ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
78. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Halafu likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
79. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā lābhasakkārasilokaṃ nikāmayamānā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote anayetamani mapato, heshima na sifa, akiishi misituni, nyikani na maskani ya upweke,
80. lābhasakkārasilokanikāmanasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya tamaa yao kwa faida na sifa hujiletea hofu na vitisho vibaya.”
81. Na kho panāhaṃ lābhasakkārasilokaṃ nikāmayamāno araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa ninatamani faida na sifa;
82. appicchohamasmi.
- ninaridhika na kidogo.
83. Ye hi vo ariyā appicchā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye kutosheka na kidogo wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
84. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, appicchataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua kuridhika huku ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
85. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo lingine, brāhmaṇa—
86. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā kusītā hīnavīriyā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mvivu na mwenye bidii dhaifu, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya upweke,
87. kusītahīnavīriyasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya uvivu huo hujiletea hofu na vitisho vibaya.”
88. Na kho panāhaṃ kusīto hīnavīriyo araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa mvivu au dhaifu,
89. āraddhavīriyohamasmi.
- bidii yangu imechochewa.
90. Ye hi vo ariyā āraddhavīriyā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya walioamka katika bidii, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
91. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, āraddhavīriyataṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua bidii hii ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
92. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Tena likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
93. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā muṭṭhassatī asampajānā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote aliyepoteza kumbukumbu na kutokua makini, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya upweke,
94. muṭṭhassatiasampajānasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’
- kwa sababu ya kuteleza kwa uangalifu hujiletea hofu na vitisho vibaya.”
95. Na kho panāhaṃ muṭṭhassati asampajāno araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;
- Lakini mimi siishi porini nikiwa nimepoteza kumbukumbu na ufahamu,
96. upaṭṭhitassatīhamasmi.
- kumbukumbu yangu iko macho na ufahamu wangu uko hai.
97. Ye hi vo ariyā upaṭṭhitassatī araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya wenye kumbukumbu thabiti, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
98. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, upaṭṭhitassatitaṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua uangalifu huu ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza ari na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
99. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Kisha likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa—
100. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā asamāhitā vibbhantacittā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote aliyekosa mtuliko, akili ikitawanyika, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya upweke,
101. asamāhitavibbhantacittasandosahetu have te bhonto samaṇabrāhmaṇā akusalaṃ bhayabheravaṃ avhāyanti.’

102. Na kho panāhaṃ asamāhito vibbhantacitto araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi;

104. Ye hi vo ariyā samādhisampannā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti tesamahaṃ aññataro’ti.
- Miongoni mwa Waenye Ariya walio kamili katika samādhi, wanaoishi maporini, mimi ni mmoja wao.”
105. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, samādhisampadaṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua ukamilifu huu wa samādhi ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza shauku na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
106. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi –
- Tena likanijia wazo, brāhmaṇa —
107. ‘ye kho keci samaṇā vā brāhmaṇā vā duppaññā eḷamūgā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevanti,
- “Mtawa au brāhmaṇa yeyote mpumbavu, asiye na busara, akiishi misituni, nyikani na makazi ya upweke,

112. Etamahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, paññāsampadaṃ attani sampassamāno bhiyyo pallomamāpādiṃ araññe vihārāya.
- Kutambua ukamilifu huu wa hekima ndani yangu, brāhmaṇa, kuliongeza shauku na ujasiri wangu wa kuishi porini.
113. Soḷasapariyāyaṃ niṭṭhitaṃ.
- Ufafanuzi wa aina kumi na sita umekamilika.
114. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi – ‘yaṃnūnāhaṃ yā tā rattiyo abhiññātā abhilakkhitā – cātuddasī pañcadasī aṭṭhamī ca pakkhassa – tathārūpāsu rattīsu yāni tāni ārāmacetiyāni vanacetiyāni rukkhacetiyāni bhiṃsanakāni salomahaṃsāni tathārūpesu senāsanesu vihareyyaṃ appeva nāmāhaṃ bhayabheravaṃ passeyya’nti.
- Kisha nikajiuliza, brāhmaṇa, hivi: ‘Usiku ambazo nimezijua na kuzipanga – zile za tarehe kumi na nne, kumi na tano na nane za kila muhula – na usiku kama hizo, katika vihenge vya kutolea mafundisho (ārāmacetiyā), vihenge vya porini (vanacetiyā), vihenge vya miti (rukkhametiyā), sehemu za kutisha (bhiṃsanakā), makazi ya kutisha na makazi ya aina kama hiyo, nitakaa pekee; labda basi nitaweza kuona dhahiri hofu hiyo ya kutisha.’
115. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, aparena samayena yā tā rattiyo abhiññātā abhilakkhitā – cātuddasī pañcadasī aṭṭhamī ca pakkhassa – tathārūpāsu rattīsu yāni tāni ārāmacetiyāni vanacetiyāni rukkhacetiyāni bhiṃsanakāni salomahaṃsāni tathārūpesu senāsanesu viharāmi.
- Hivyo, brāhmaṇa, nilikaa katika kipindi kingine usiku hizo ambazo nilizijua na kuzipanga – zile za tarehe kumi na nne, kumi na tano na nane za kila muhula – na usiku kama hizo, katika vihenge vya hermitage, vihenge vya porini, vihenge vya miti, sehemu za kutisha, malazi yenye hofu na makazi ya aina ile, mimi nikikaa pale.
116. Tattha ca me, brāhmaṇa, viharato mago vā āgacchati, moro vā kaṭṭhaṃ pāteti, vāto vā paṇṇakasaṭaṃ ereti; tassa mayhaṃ brāhmaṇa etadahosi – ‘etaṃ nūna taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchatī’nti.
- Katika vile nilipokuwa pale, brāhmaṇa, simba akanionyesha, tausi tukavunja tawi, au upepo ukavuruga majani; basi nikajiambia, brāhmaṇa, hivi: ‘Hii ndicho kinachoonekana kuwa hofu hiyo ya kutisha inanijia.’
117. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, etadahosi – ‘kiṃ nu kho ahaṃ aññadatthu bhayapaṭikaṅkhī viharāmi? Yaṃnūnāhaṃ yathābhūtaṃ yathābhūtassa me taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchati, tathābhūtaṃ tathābhūtova taṃ bhayabheravaṃ paṭivineyya’nti.
- Kisha nikajiambia, brāhmaṇa, hivi: ‘Je, nitakaa nikitarajia hofu nyingine? Hofu ile ya kutisha inayonijia sasa hivi itafaa kukabiliana nayo kama ilivyo, na itoje jinsi ilivyo.’
118. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, caṅkamantassa taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchati.
- Pale tu, brāhmaṇa, ilinionyesha hofu ile nikiwa natafakari nikipiga hatua.
119. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, neva tāva tiṭṭhāmi na nisīdāmi na nipajjāmi, yāva caṅkamantova taṃ bhayabheravaṃ paṭivinemi.
- Hivyo, brāhmaṇa, sikusuwa kusimama, kuketi wala kulala hadi nishinde hofu ile nikiwa natafakari.
120. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, ṭhitassa taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchati.
- Kisha ilinionyesha hofu ile nikiwa nimesimama.
121. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, neva tāva caṅkamāmi na nisīdāmi na nipajjāmi. Yāva ṭhitova taṃ bhayabheravaṃ paṭivinemi.
- Basi sikusonga, kuketi wala kulala hadi nishinde hofu ile nikiwa nimesimama.
122. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, nisinnassa taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchati.
- Halafu ikaja hofu ile nikiwa nimeketi.
123. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, neva tāva nipajjāmi na tiṭṭhāmi na caṅkamāmi, yāva nisinnova taṃ bhayabheravaṃ paṭivinemi.
- Basi sikulala, kusimama wala kutembea hadi nishinde ile hofu nikiwa nimeketi.
124. Tassa mayhaṃ, brāhmaṇa, nipannassa taṃ bhayabheravaṃ āgacchati.
- Mwisho tu ilinionyesha hofu ile nikiwa nimelala upande.
125. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, neva tāva nisīdāmi na tiṭṭhāmi na caṅkamāmi, yāva nipannova taṃ bhayabheravaṃ paṭivinemi.
- Hivyo, brāhmaṇa, sikuketi, kusimama wala kutembea hadi nishinde ile hofu nikiwa nimelala kabisa.
126. Santi kho pana, brāhmaṇa, eke samaṇabrāhmaṇā rattiṃyeva samānaṃ divāti sañjānanti, divāyeva samānaṃ rattīti sañjānanti.
- Lakini, brāhmaṇa, kuna baadhi ya watwa na mabrahmana ambao huchanganya usiku na mchana: wanadhani usiku ni mchana na mchana ni usiku.
127. Idamahaṃ tesaṃ samaṇabrāhmaṇānaṃ sammohavihārasmiṃ vadāmi.
- Hii ni taswira ya hali yao ya kushawishika ninayoelezea.
128. Ahaṃ kho pana, brāhmaṇa, rattiṃyeva samānaṃ rattīti sañjānāmi, divāyeva samānaṃ divāti sañjānāmi.
- Lakini mimi, brāhmaṇa, niliendelea kuitambua usiku kama usiku, na mchana kama mchana.
129. Yaṃ kho taṃ, brāhmaṇa, sammā vadamāno vadeyya – ‘asammohadhammo satto loke uppanno bahujanahitāya bahujanasukhāya lokānukampāya atthāya hitāya sukhāya devamanussāna’nti,
- Na ikitokea nikiwaelezea wengi, kweli ningeanza kusema: “Dhamma isiyoleta upotofu imeanzishwa duniani kwa manufaa ya wengi, kwa furaha ya wengi, kwa huruma kwa dunia, kwa maslahi na ustawi, kwa furaha ya miungu na wanadamu,”
130. mameva taṃ sammā vadamāno vadeyya – ‘asammohadhammo satto loke uppanno bahujanahitāya bahujanasukhāya lokānukampāya atthāya hitāya sukhāya devamanussāna’nti.
- na nami ningeongea kwa usahihi huo huo: “Dhamma isiyoleta upotofu imeanzishwa duniani kwa manufaa ya wengi, kwa furaha ya wengi, kwa huruma kwa dunia, kwa maslahi na ustawi, kwa furaha ya miungu na wanadamu.”
131. Āraddhaṃ kho pana me, brāhmaṇa, vīriyaṃ ahosi asallīnaṃ,
- Lakini, brāhmaṇa, nguvu zangu zilijaa bidii isiyokoma,
132. upaṭṭhitā sati asammuṭṭhā,
- kumbukumbu yangu ilikuwa makini na haikuyumba,
133. passaddho kāyo asāraddho,
- mwili wangu ulikuwa mtulivu na haukuwa dhaifu,
134. samāhitaṃ cittaṃ ekaggaṃ.
- na akili yangu ilikuwa imekusanyika na kuungana.
135. So kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaṃ savicāraṃ vivekajaṃ pītisukhaṃ paṭhamaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja vihāsiṃ.
- Mimi, brāhmaṇa, nikaondokana na tamaa za kimwili na dhambi nyingine, nikajiandaa kwa mawazo na uchambuzi uliolenga utengano; nikapata furaha na raha, na nikachukua jhāna ya kwanza.
136. Vitakkavicārānaṃ vūpasamā ajjhattaṃ sampasādanaṃ cetaso ekodibhāvaṃ avitakkaṃ avicāraṃ samādhijaṃ pītisukhaṃ dutiyaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja vihāsiṃ.
- Kisha mawazo na uchambuzi vikitulia kabisa, na akili ikapata umoja bila mawazo wala uchambuzi, nikapata tena furaha na raha ya samādhi na nikachukua jhāna ya pili.
137. Pītiyā ca virāgā upekkhako ca vihāsiṃ, sato ca sampajāno sukhañca kāyena paṭisaṃvedesiṃ;
- Kisha nikapunguza furaha, nikawa na upekeo wa utulivu, kumbukumbu nikiwa hai, na nikahisi raha kwa mwili;
138. yaṃ taṃ ariyā ācikkhanti – ‘upekkhako satimā sukhavihārī’ti tatiyaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja vihāsiṃ.
- kama Wenyeriya wanavyofundisha: “aliye na upekeo na kumbukumbu, anabaki akijivutia raha,” nami nikafikia jhāna ya tatu.
139. Sukhassa ca pahānā dukkhassa ca pahānā pubbeva somanassadomanassānaṃ atthaṅgamā adukkhamasukhaṃ upekkhāsatipārisuddhiṃ catutthaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja vihāsiṃ.
- Mwisho nikayaacha raha na huzuni za zamani, nikapata utulivu safi wa hisia zote, na nikachukua jhāna ya nne.
140. So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe pariyodāte anaṅgaṇe vigatūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite āneñjappatte pubbenivāsānussatiñāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmesiṃ.
- Pale akili yangu ilipokuwa imara, safi, imesafishwa kutoka uchafu wowote, huru na mtikisiko wowote, nikaweka dhamira thabiti katika matendo ya kimwili, nikapata utambuzi wa maisha yangu ya awali.

So anekavihitaṃ pubbenivāsaṃ anussarāmi, seyyathidaṃ – ekampi jātiṃ dvepi jātiyo tissopi jātiyo catassopi jātiyo pañcapi jātiyo dasapi jātiyo vīsampi jātiyo tiṃsampi jātiyo cattālīsampi jātiyo paññāsampi jātiyo jātisatampi jātisahassampi jātisatasahassampi anekepi saṃvaṭṭakappe anekepi vivaṭṭakappe anekepi saṃvaṭṭavivaṭṭakappe – ‘amutrāsiṃ evaṃnāmo evaṃgotto evaṃvaṇṇo evamāhāro evaṃsukhadukkhappaṭisaṃvedī evamāyupariyanto, so tato cuto amutra udapādiṃ; tatrāpāsiṃ evaṃnāmo evaṃgotto evaṃvaṇṇo evamāhāro evaṃsukhadukkhappaṭisaṃvedī evamāyupariyanto, so tato cuto idhūpapanno’ti.
- Nikakumbuka maisha mingi ya awali: kuzaliwa mara moja, mbili, tatu, nne, tano, kumi, ishirini, thelathini, arobaini, hamsini, mia moja, elfu moja, elfu mia moja, katika mizunguko mingi ya uumbaji, kuangamizwa na kuibuka tena—“Nilikuwa nimezaliwa hapa: jina, ukoo, muonekano, lishe, hisia za raha na maumivu, maisha kama hivi; kutoka huko nikaja hapa; nikashuhudia tena: jina, ukoo, muonekano, lishe, hisia na maisha kama hivi; nilizaliwa tena ulimwenguni.”
142. Iti sākāraṃ sauddesaṃ anekavihitaṃ pubbenivāsaṃ anussarāmi.
- Hivyo, katika mwili huu nimekuwa nikirejelea kumbukumbu hizi nyingi za awali.
143. Ayaṃ kho me, brāhmaṇa, rattiyā paṭhame yāme paṭhamā vijjā adhigatā, avijjā vihatā vijjā uppannā, tamo vihato āloko uppanno, yathā taṃ appamattassa ātāpino pahitattassa viharato.
- Hii ndiyo maarifa ya kwanza niliyopata: usiku, katika zamu yangu ya kwanza—ujinga uliangushwa, maarifa yalikoma mwishoni, giza likakaswa, nuru ilizaliwa—nilikaa nikifanya kazi kwa bidii na makini.
144. So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe pariyodāte anaṅgaṇe vigatūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite āneñjappatte sattānaṃ cutūpapātañāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmesiṃ.
- Katika akili iliyokusanywa, safi, imesafishwa, isiyo na uchafu wowote, na thabiti katika matendo, nilipata ufahamu wa nati za maisha ya viumbe kuisha na kuzaliwa tena.
145. So dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate yathākammūpage satte pajānāmi –
- Kwa jicho la kiroho lililosafishwa, ninaliona kiumbe kinapita, anapozaliwa tena, mwadilifu au mbaya, wa dhahabu ama mweusi, kwenye maisha mema au mabaya, kulingana na matendo yao.
146. ‘ime vata bhonto sattā kāyaduccaritena samannāgatā vacīduccaritena samannāgatā manoduccaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ upavādakā micchādiṭṭhikā micchādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā apāyaṃ duggatiṃ vinipātaṃ nirayaṃ upapannā.
- “Kweli viumbe wamejaa matendo mabaya ya mwili, maneno na mawazo, na wafuata mafundisho ya uwongo na mikakati isiyo sahihi; kwa hayo matendo yao, baada ya kifo wangepata kifungo cha mateso, kuzama katika heka heka duni, na kushushwa kuzimu.
147. Ime vā pana bhonto sattā kāyasucaritena samannāgatā vacīsucaritena samannāgatā manosucaritena samannāgatā ariyānaṃ anupavādakā sammādiṭṭhikā sammādiṭṭhikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapannā’nti.
- “Au viumbe wamejawa na matendo mema ya mwili, maneno na mawazo, na hufuata mafundisho ya kweli na mikakati sahihi; kwa hayo matendo yao, baada ya kifo wangepata maisha mema ya milele, kuingia mbinguni.”
148. Iti dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne hīne paṇīte suvaṇṇe dubbaṇṇe sugate duggate yathākammūpage satte pajānāmi.
- Kwa hivyo, kwa jicho langu lililosafishwa la kiroho, ninaliona kiumbe kinapita na kuzaliwa tena, mwadilifu au mbaya, dhahabu au giza, mema au mabaya, kulingana na matendo yao.
149. Ayaṃ kho me, brāhmaṇa, rattiyā majjhime yāme dutiyā vijjā adhigatā, avijjā vihatā vijjā uppannā, tamo vihato āloko uppanno, yathā taṃ appamattassa ātāpino pahitattassa viharato.
- Hiyo ndiyo maarifa ya pili niliyopata usiku katika zamu ya kati, maarifa yakashuka na ujinga ukaondoka, giza likakaswa na nuru ikazaliwa, nilipokuwa nikifanya kazi kwa bidii na makini.
150. So evaṃ samāhite citte parisuddhe pariyodāte anaṅgaṇe vigatūpakkilese mudubhūte kammaniye ṭhite āneñjappatte āsavānaṃ khayañāṇāya cittaṃ abhininnāmesiṃ.
- Pale akili ilipokuwa imara, safi, imesafishwa na uchafu wowote, imethabiti katika matendo, nilipata ufahamu wa kutokuwepo kwa vishawishi (āsavā).
151. So ‘idaṃ dukkha’nti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- Nikagundua kweli: “Hili ndilo kifo chungu”
152. ‘ayaṃ dukkhasamudayo’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- “Hili ndilo chanzo cha mateso”
153. ‘ayaṃ dukkhanirodho’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- “Hili ndilo kuondolewa kwa mateso”
154. ‘ayaṃ dukkhanirodhagāminī paṭipadā’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.
- “Hii ndiyo njia inayofuata kuondolewa kwa mateso.”
155. ‘Ime āsavā’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- Nikagundua: “Hivi ni vishawishi”
156. ‘ayaṃ āsavasamudayo’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- “Hivi ndilo chanzo cha vishawishi”
157. ‘ayaṃ āsavanirodho’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ,
- “Hivi ndilo kuondolewa kwa vishawishi”
158. ‘ayaṃ āsavanirodhagāminī paṭipadā’ti yathābhūtaṃ abbhaññāsiṃ.
- “Hii ndiyo njia inayofuata kuondolewa kwa vishawishi.”
159. Tassa me evaṃ jānato evaṃ passato kāmāsavāpi cittaṃ vimuccittha,
- Nikapo jua na kuona hivi, akili yangu ilitakaswa na kuachilia vishawishi vya tamaa,
160. bhavāsavāpi cittaṃ vimuccittha,
- vichochezi vya uzima viliondolewa,
161. avijjāsavāpi cittaṃ vimuccittha.
- na vishawishi vya ujinga vilitoweka.
162. Vimuttasmiṃ vimuttamiti ñāṇaṃ ahosi.
- Hapo nikapata ufahamu wa ukombozi kamili.
163. ‘Khīṇā jāti, vusitaṃ brahmacariyaṃ, kataṃ karaṇīyaṃ, nāparaṃ itthattāyā’ti abbhaññāsiṃ.
- Nikagundua: “Kizazi kimekwisha ukatili kimevunjika, niliisha dhamma, kazi yote imekamilika, haipo tena tofauti—ivyo imekuwa.”
164. Ayaṃ kho me, brāhmaṇa, rattiyā pacchime yāme tatiyā vijjā adhigatā,
- Hii ndiyo maarifa ya tatu niliyoyapata usiku katika zamu ya mwisho,
165. avijjā vihatā vijjā uppannā, tamo vihato āloko uppanno,
- ujinga ulionyang’arishwa, maarifa yalikamilika, giza likakaswa, nuru ikazaliwa,
166. yathā taṃ appamattassa ātāpino pahitattassa viharato.
- nilipokuwa nikifanya kazi kwa bidii na makini.
167. Siyā kho pana te, brāhmaṇa, evamassa – ‘ajjāpi nūna samaṇo gotamo avītarāgo avītadoso avītamoho, tasmā araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevatī’ti.
- Lakini, brāhmaṇa, hapana, si swali ndiyo: ‘Mara aisee Samana Gotama hana tena tamaa, hana hasira, hana upotofu; kwa hiyo hufanya makazi misituni, nyika na maeneo ya kutuliza fikira.’
168. Na kho panetaṃ, brāhmaṇa, evaṃ daṭṭhabbaṃ.
- Hiyo haisahihi, brāhmaṇa, haitakiwi kufanya uchunguzi hivyo.
169. Dve kho ahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, atthavase sampassamāno araññavanapatthāni pantāni senāsanāni paṭisevāmi –
- Lakini mimi, brāhmaṇa, mara mbili nimepata nafasi ya kutulia na kuona misitu, nyika na makazi ya kutuliza fikira;
170. attano ca diṭṭhadhammasukhavihāraṃ sampassamāno, pacchimañca janataṃ anukampamāno’’ti.
- na nikiwa nikifurahia utulivu wa kweli wa dhamma ndani yangu, kisha hunyonya huruma kwa wengi.
171. Anukampitarūpā vatāyaṃ bhotā gotamena pacchimā janatā, yathā taṃ arahatā sammāsambuddhena.
- Kwa mfano, wale wanaoonyesha huruma, baadaye hudhuriwa kuwa kimbilio cha watu, Ee Gotama, kama vile arahants na Wenye Ukweli Waliojijua.
172. Abhikkantaṃ, bho gotama! Abhikkantaṃ, bho gotama!
- Bora sana, Ee Gotama! Bora sana, Ee Gotama!
173. Seyyathāpi, bho gotama, nikkujjitaṃ vā ukkujjeyya, paṭicchannaṃ vā vivareyya, mūḷhassa vā maggaṃ ācikkheyya, andhakāre vā telapajjotaṃ dhāreyya – ‘cakkhumanto rūpāni dakkhantī’ti;
- Kama vile, Ee Gotama, mtu akiunua kifuniko au kufunua yaliyofichwa, ama kumuonyesha mjinga njia, ama kuwasha taa gizani na kusema ‘mwenye macho huona vitu’;
174. evamevaṃ bhotā gotamena anekapariyāyena dhammo pakāsito.

175. Esāhaṃ bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi dhammañca bhikkhusaṅghañca.

176. Upāsakaṃ maṃ bhavaṃ gotamo dhāretu ajjatagge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gata’’nti.
